Andrzej Duda, the Polish President, has recognised Professor Janusz Filipiak, founder and President of the Board, Comarch SA, for his service to Polish business, by awarding him an Individual Prize. The president handed the award to Professor Filipiak during Congress 590, which took place on November 17, 2016 in Rzeszow. The President emphasized the scientific achievements and academic work of Janusz Filipiak and its contribution to the development of Polish business.

He said:  “In our country there are many people who have achieved success in business, but here is a very special situation. The professor, has added his talents as an entrepreneur to the scientific talent that has been evident - you could say - for decades, which ultimately led him to gain the tittle of professor.”

“This combination of scientific achievements with the later development of the business, also benefits from the talents of young students of technical sciences in Krakow and in Poland, giving them a chance to grow within Comarch. This is certainly a great achievement by the professor, not only for Polish science, but also for Polish business, and for our qualified staff specialists, managers,”  he added.

During the ceremony, Andrzej Duda also presented the President's Economic Prize to six companies in the following categories: The leader of Small and Medium Enterprises, National Success, International Success, Responsible Business, STARTUP_PL and Research + Development. This year 18 Polish companies have received nominations for the awards.

Janusz Filipiak holds a Professor’s title in technical sciences. For over thirty years now, he has been interested in advanced technologies. At the age of 39, he was awarded a Professor’s title by the President of the Republic of Poland. He completed a managerial course in Japan. He also worked as a scientific consultant for France Telecom and held the role of director plenipotentiary at the Teletraffic Research Center at the University of Adelaide (Australia). He conducted research projects in laboratories in the United States and Canada. He is an author of over 100 publications on data transmission and teleinformatics, six books on teleinformatics (three of them were published in the USA and in Western Europe) and around 100 scientific articles.

In 1993, Janusz Filipiak established Comarch, the global IT business solutions company and the first Polish company of its kind. He is the president of the board and CEO of the company.
