E-Invoicing in Chile
Mandatory Electronic Invoicing in Chile
Navigate Chile’s regulatory landscape with a roadmap that prepares you for the e-invoicing mandates sweeping 70+ countries worldwide.

Chile is on the Road to E‑invoicing
After the introduction of voluntary electronic invoicing in 2001, the regulation was extended to all companies in 2014. In addition, starting from January 2020, all taxpayers may only issue bills of lading electronically through the Internal Tax Service (SII) of Chile.
Currently, e-invoicing is mandatory for all companies in Chile, which must both issue and receive Electronic Tax Documents (DTEs) in XML format.
Implementation timeline
2014
- 2014: E-invoicing obligation introduced for B2B and B2G transactions.
2018
- 2018: Mandatory B2B and B2G electronic invoicing for all businesses.
2020
- 2020: All companies must issue bills of lading using the SII system.

E-invoicing process description
To issue DTEs (Electronic Tax Documents), taxpayers must register with the SII. After registration, a CAF (Folio Authorization Code) is obtained from the SII, and the taxpayer must then apply a digital signature using a proprietary certificate. Once the SII approves an e-invoice, it is sent to the service provider, who then forwards it to the customer.

Required format
In Chile, all Electronic Tax Documents (DTEs) must be issued in XML_DTE format, including invoices and other tax documents, such as debit notes.
The following document types are classified as DTEs in Chile:
- Goods Invoice
- Exempt Goods Invoice
- Bill of Lading
- Credit Note
- Debit Note
- Purchase Invoice
- Consignment Invoice
- Export Invoice
- Export Credit Note
- Export Debit Note
- Consumer Invoice

Archiving requirements
- Tax documents must be retained for 6 years.

How can integrity and authenticity be ensured?
- Electronic signatures are mandatory. Each invoice must be signed using a proprietary digital certificate formatted in XMLDsig.
