Moldova Advances E-Receipt Legislation with Digital Cash Register Initiative

The Moldovan government has introduced a legislative initiative aimed at modernizing the retail and tax reporting system through the authorization of virtual cash registers and digital tax receipts (eBon). The reform aims to reduce operational costs for businesses and enhance access to digital solutions for both merchants and consumers.

If adopted, the changes would let merchants generate and send tax receipts electronically through applications installed on smartphones, tablets, or computers. Receipts could be sent to customers via email or SMS, with paper copies available upon request.

This initiative is part of Moldova’s broader effort to accelerate the digitalization of its economy. The proposal is currently in the legislative drafting stage and will be submitted to Parliament for approval before any changes come into force.
