Belgium Confirms End of Grace Period for B2B E-Invoicing
The Belgian government has officially confirmed the conclusion of the three-month transition period regarding mandatory B2B e-invoicing. While the Peppol-based exchange system for resident businesses became operational on January 1, 2026, a temporary reprieve from penalties was granted to facilitate adoption. This grace period ended on March 31, 2026.
Starting April 1, 2026, companies failing to comply with the e-invoicing mandate may be subject to administrative sanctions. The Federal Public Service (FPS) Finance will oversee enforcement, evaluating non-compliance and determining penalties on a case-by-case basis.
It is important to note that an exemption for self-invoicing remains in place to allow completion of necessary technical integrations.
