Italy: Mandatory e-invoicing using the governmental platform (SdI)– Comarch ready ahead of time with first companies on board

Starting from January 1st, 2019, the mandatory e-invoicing obligation for all B2B and B2C transactions comes into force in Italy. Having a SdI accreditation, Comarch has already a very strong position on the Italian market and presents completeness of vision and ability to execute FatturaXML requirements. More and more companies are now starting working with Comarch, not only local businesses but also global companies that are using an Italian VAT number.

As a result of these legislative changes, many companies have been contacting us looking for a solution that is fully compliant with the new e-invoicing regulations. The changes concern many Italian companies as well as global corporations having their branches in Italy. Despite the fact that this mandatory e-invoicing obligation has already been in force from January, many companies are still searching for the right solution provider. We predict that this trend will continue over the coming months. – says Tomasz Spłuszka, Consulting Director in Comarch e-Invoicing.

According to the "Study and Reports on the VAT Gap in the EU - 28 Member States: 2018 Final Report" document, the VAT Gap in Italy is the largest in Europe. In 2016, the collected amount was over €35 billion lower than the expected VAT revenue. In order to reduce tax evasion and prevent any VAT fraud, the Italian Government is now taking actions to solve this issue. The crucial step has arrived, and the mandatory electronic invoicing has now been extended to all economic operators in Italy starting from January 1st, 2019. All the Italian e-invoices must now be transmitted through the Sistema di Interscambio (SdI) – an official government e-invoicing platform managed by the Italian Revenue Agency which, until now, has transmitting e-invoices to the Public Administration.

Italy, as the first European country with mandatory B2B e-Invoicing rules, currently has the most complex invoicing and archiving rules in Europe. Participating in conferences and maintaining contact with government agencies have enabled us to increase our presence on the Italian market. But we clearly cannot rest on laurels. By constantly monitoring legal changes in global e-Invoicing, we are ready to face new challenges. – says Anna Bawół, Compliance Expert in Comarch e-Invoicing.

For Italy, the B2B electronic invoicing obligation is a massive change. For COMARCH, it is an opportunity to help Italian companies to adjust to the new rules and to strengthen its market position in the field of EDI and E-invoicing offerings.

Since we received SDI accreditation in April 2018, COMARCH ITALY has started working on numerous e-invoicing projects with some of the biggest brands in FMCG, Retail, Automotive, Travel&Airlines sectors. We’ve been appreciated because of our global experience, along with strong local support in terms of project management and consulting. Now that COMARCH is a well-recognized brand in Italy for EDI and E-invoicing services, we will pursue the goal of becoming a pioneer delivering a new approach to digitalizing businesses. – says Kamila Niekraszewicz, Country Manager in Comarch Italy.
