E-Invoicing Executive Lunch in Bratislava: Preparing for Slovakia’s 2027 Mandate
On September 8, Comarch welcomed finance, tax, and IT decision-makers to an E-Invoicing Executive Lunch in Bratislava, dedicated to Slovakia’s upcoming e-invoicing mandate and the practical steps businesses need to take before it goes live.
The 2027 Deadline Is Closer Than It Looks
Today, only certain B2G transactions above EUR 5,000 must be exchanged electronically in Slovakia, through the government’s IS EFA interface. That changes on January 1, 2027, when Slovak VAT payers will be legally required to issue and receive structured e-invoices for specified domestic B2B and B2G supplies, transmitted through a Peppol-based network in the UBL 2.1 format. Comarch is already an accredited service provider and ready to support clients ahead of that deadline, with the obligation set to expand to cross-border intra-EU transactions from July 2030 under the EU’s VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) initiative.
The Agenda Served in Four Courses
The event was hosted by Sylwia Kosińska, Business Development Manager at Comarch, who opened with a short introduction to the company before handing over to the day’s speakers. We started with an appetizer from Rafał Trojanowski, Head of Legal Compliance at Comarch, who traced the broader shift away from traditional EDI and post-audit controls toward Continuous Transaction Controls, and explained how the EU’s ViDA Directive ties back to the Peppol network and the EN 16931 European standard. As he notes:
“Slovakia is really laying down the blueprint. By pioneering the decentralized 5-Corner model, they’re building the exact structural framework we expect other member states to replicate for continuous transaction controls.”
For the first course, Marta Frok, EDI Consulting Manager at Comarch, walked attendees through the mechanics of Slovakia’s own decentralized Peppol model, in which invoices and their accompanying Slovak Tax Data Documents are sent in parallel to the buyer’s provider and to the tax authority, with message-level status confirmations required within ten minutes. She also set out Comarch’s implementation roadmap for the mandate. As she explains:
“Slovakia’s e-invoicing mandate (IS EFA) might seem like a distant 2027 requirement, but integration testing, access configuration, and internal sign-offs all need to happen well in advance. This project starts now – not next year. That’s why, as an accredited e-invoicing provider, we’re already onboarding clients who want a head start.”
After a coffee break, the main course brought the topic to life through real-world implementations. Łukasz Barchański, Comarch EDI Consulting Director, drew on the Comarch E-Invoicing platform that already exchanges more than 300 million documents a year for over 100,000 entities in more than 60 countries, walking guests through real-world case studies with our clients. As he says:
“What resonated most with the room wasn’t the number of countries we cover, but how differently each mandate behaves once you dig into the details. Whether it’s a brewery connecting to Romania’s e-Factura system or a construction group managing invoices across seventeen EU countries, the lesson is the same: the platform has to be flexible enough to absorb local rules without slowing the business down.”
For dessert, an interactive Q&A session gave guests the chance to put their own compliance questions to the speakers, before everyone moved into a networking lunch to continue the conversation informally.
