The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), working alongside the National Treasury, has finished linking the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) with the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS). In a public notice dated August 31, 2026, KRA described the integration as a milestone in the government’s digital transformation program, built to strengthen transparency and accountability across public-sector transactions.

eTIMS is KRA’s electronic platform for issuing and recording tax invoices. IFMIS is the central system the Kenyan government uses to manage procurement, budgeting, expenditure, accounting, and payments to suppliers across public entities. By connecting the two platforms, the authorities intend to make government financial processes more efficient and to raise tax compliance through automatic validation of invoices submitted for payment.

New Obligations for Government Suppliers

Businesses that supply goods or services to government entities must now meet additional conditions before they can be paid through IFMIS:

  • Valid eTIMS invoice required: Suppliers must generate a valid eTIMS invoice for every supply before submitting a claim for payment processing through IFMIS.
  • Matching invoice data: The invoice submitted to the government entity must correspond exactly to the invoice data generated and recorded in eTIMS.
  • Compliant tax status: Suppliers are encouraged to maintain accurate, up-to-date tax records and taxpayer information, and to regularly verify their tax compliance status.

KRA and the National Treasury stated that they will run sensitization programs and provide technical support and guidance to suppliers during the implementation and transition period.
