About the Client

Founded in France in 1976, Decathlon has grown into one of the world’s largest sporting goods retailers. The company designs, manufactures, and distributes equipment, apparel, and footwear for dozens of sports, and operates more than 1,700 stores in over 60 countries and territories. In Poland, Decathlon Sp. z o.o. runs a dense network of large-format stores alongside its e-commerce platform and its rental service, Decathlon Rent.

In 2025, Decathlon and Comarch began a strategic partnership to build a modern foundation for digital document exchange and e-invoicing, starting in Poland and designed to grow with the Decathlon Group worldwide.

The Challenge: Compliance at Retail Scale

With KSeF, Poland’s National e-Invoicing System, reshaping how companies issue B2B invoices, Decathlon needed a partner that could fully automate the transmission of outbound electronic invoices to the government portal and guarantee their legal correctness. For a retailer of Decathlon’s size, this was far from a simple connection to a single system.

Invoices at Decathlon Poland originate in several places, as the company provides a variety of services and sales within a few different sales channels. The cooperation with Comarch was related to the brick-and-mortar retail sales, which run on Decathlon POK, the rental business that relies on the Decathlon Rent in-house system and other local in-house invoicing platforms. Each of these systems had to be integrated into a single central EDI and e-invoicing engine with different data mapping, without disrupting day-to-day operations.

Volume and reliability added further pressure. The solution had to handle tens of thousands of outbound invoices each year across multiple business units while meeting tight response-time SLAs and strict data security requirements.

The Solution: One Central Hub for Every Invoice Flow

The core of the project is the Comarch E-Invoicing Platform, which securely transmits compliant electronic invoices straight to government portals, starting with KSeF in Poland. It is supported by a set of connected components:

  • Multi-system API integration (REST WebService): Dedicated integration channels link Decathlon Rent, Decathlon POK and local invoicing platforms with the Comarch EDI Platform and the government endpoints.
  • Comarch WebEDI and EDI Tracking: Web-based portals give Decathlon teams real-time visibility into document transmission statuses, enable them to manage authentication tokens, and allow them to issue KSeF-compliant invoices directly via WebEDI.
  • Comarch EDI Archive and OCR capabilities: Secure, long-term cloud storage for structured electronic documents, along with the ability to convert unstructured data such as PDFs and scans into structured formats.

The Project: Poland First, the World Next

The agreement was signed in February 2025 as a 5-year strategic contract. The project follows a “first rollout” model, in which Poland serves as the blueprint for every market that follows.

Each country rollout is divided into two phases. The Implementation Phase covers gap analysis, translation map creation, REST API setup, and integration testing. It is followed by an ongoing Maintenance Phase, in which Comarch keeps the solution up to date and running smoothly.

In Poland, the scope includes full integration of Decathlon’s three core IT systems, configuration of KSeF REST API connectors, and onboarding of user accounts onto Comarch EDI Tracking and WebEDI. The core platform, WebServices, and translation maps built during this first phase form a reusable foundation for later rollouts.

A Partnership Built for the Long Run

With a 5-year initial term and built-in extension options, the contract makes Comarch a key technology partner for the Decathlon Group. Decathlon is supported by dedicated Comarch project managers, integration developers, and mapping specialists, as well as a 3-tier support structure: a service desk available in 10 European languages, technical support, and the core development team.

The cooperation also fully complies with the Decathlon Code of Conduct for Business Partners and with GDPR.

Key Benefits

  • Future-proof global rollout architecture: Because the core platform, WebServices, and translation maps are established in Phase 1, Decathlon can quickly and cost-effectively extend e-invoicing to over 40 other countries, including France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, and the UK.
  • Full tax and legal compliance: Comarch continuously maintains the system to keep it aligned with changing government specifications and legislation in all active Decathlon countries, without the need for additional Change Requests.
  • Unified integration across business channels: Invoice flows from physical stores (POK), local invoicing platform, and rental services (Decathlon Rent) converge into a single, standardized pipeline.
  • Enterprise-level security and reliability: 24/7 technical availability, dedicated project management, ISO 27001-certified data protection, and a guaranteed 98%+ platform availability SLA.
