The Małopolska Economic Council and the Executive Board of Małopolskie Voivodeship have recognised special achievements of Professor Janusz Filipiak related to the economic development of the Małopolska Region and building an image of the voivodeship as an innovative and modern region awarding him with a special prize. Professor Filipiak was presented with the prize during a conference that marked the opening of the Małopolska Innovation Festival that was held on 17 October 2016.

The Council and the Executive Board appreciated the fact that Professor Filipiak founded Comarch in 1993, being one of the most innovative and dynamically developing IT companies in Central and Eastern Europe. The Award Chapter also recognised an enormous role of Comarch in activities involving dissemination of an idea of corporate social responsibility.

The Council Members also recognised the fact that Prof. Janusz Filipiak had contributed to science and sport in Małopolska Region. In 1990's he headed the Department of Telecommunications at Kraków's AGH Technical University of Science and Technology, and Comarch which is owned by Prof. Filipiak has been the main sponsor of Kraków's Cracovia Club since 2004. The Company has been supporting the football team and the ice hockey team. Additionally, since the beginning of its operations Comarch has been broadly committed to promoting sports among youth and inhabitants of Małopolskie Voivodeship.
