OSRAM GmbH is wholly owned by Siemens AG and is one of the leading manufacturers of lamps in the world. This global company has almost 35 000 employees worldwide and customers in more than 140 countries. Products are manufactured in 54 plants located in 18 countries. Osram Ltd in Bulgaria was established at the end of 1998 as a legal entity as accounted for by Bulgarian legislation, running its own sales and warehousing business. Its trade partners are mainly the large distributors in this industry as well as corporate customers worldwide.

Comarch and Eltrade (the Comarch ECOD partner in Bulgaria) offered Osram Ltd a solution for electronic data interchange in 2007 – ECOD. The key objectives of implementing EDI in Osram’s business were cost reduction and improvements in the order process. Osram decided to implement the ECOD Connector application. During the analysis of this project, the issue of different identity codes was raised. Osram required all product and location data in specific internal codes and Osram’s partners’ data was based on global identification numbers – ILNs and EANs. In order to solve this issue, ECOD offered data-matching technology, which added information about internal codes to EDI documents sent by business partners to Osram.
