BPM editor

The BPM editor is a tool that allows you to create or edit business tasks, performed either by an employee, or automatically by the system. It is also possible to import and export the processes or just the business objects which are then used in the editor.

With the BPM editor you can define and manage as many different processes as you wish. Every process is made up of business objects that are linked with activities within different steps of the process. As a technical feature, business objects are traditional .NET classes providing the BPM engine with the possibility of establishing communication links to the Comarch ALTUM system, the inbox or any external system (as long as it provides the API to handle them properly).

The BPM editor displays processes using a graphical interface that includes areas such as:

• BPM graphic form – the main part of the editor – allows constructing the course of the process graphically and shows the connections between the objects used in it.
• List of the available business objects that can be linked together with activities.
• List of the available activities, which along with business objects, are the main BPM components allowing the construction of a process.

All the above components can be added to the process simply by dragging them from the list of activities into the editor main window.

BPM server

The task of the BPM Server is to manage the execution of processes and ensure that processes are carried out correctly. The server communicates with the departments relevant to the given process and carries out the tasks assigned to it as well as monitors accuracy at every process stage. The server starts automatically and runs in the background, acting transparently for users. Whenever you wish to personally inspect a running process, the server allows you to preview the actions that are currently being performed.

Build processes linking external applications together

Working with Comarch ALTUM’s process editor you are not limited to actions managed by the system. Thanks to the processes’ architecture based on business activities and business objects, it is possible for Comarch ALTUM to interact with external applications. Therefore you can handle end-to-end, horizontal processes – not only within the company but also outside of it: starting from the suppliers and ending with the customer. This gives you a competitive advantage over your competitors.

A simple example for the optimization of your supply chain is the reduction of delivery-times and the number of items in stock through faster realization of orders: Instead of communicating orders via phone, e-mail or fax, your customer’s order is directly transferred from his ERP system to yours. You can either first edit this order or forward it directly to your supplier, after sensitive data has been filtered out automatically. As your order is directly posted in your supplier’s ERP system, causing all the ordered articles to be reserved, you instantly receive an order confirmation document. As soon as the articles have been shipped, you receive detailed delivery information and can therefore better manage your workforce in the warehouse.

As this process contains actions and information from both inside and outside your company, you may require additional steps of confirmation or acceptance, which can be easily included in the process by editing its definition. By adding these additional security mechanisms, you are able to automate even more sensitive processes within your company and your supply chain, gaining additional advantages over your competitors.

The Comarch ALTUM process editor has a graphical interface that makes working with it easier and more efficient. On the other hand, using universal business process components (business objects and activities), does not require any special programming knowledge. Therefore, after a short training, your IT department will be able to manage processes and provide you the flexibility you seek.
