Technology

Comarch ALTUM Business Performance Management solutions use a full scale data warehouse with Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) technology – a data module that enables complex analytical queries with a rapid execution time. The data warehouse is an independent database with a snowflake structure that includes only those elements that are used during the data analysis. Its specific, multi-dimensional structure makes it possible to supply the necessary data during analysis much faster than an operational (transactional) system.

The data in the warehouse is refreshed once every twenty-four hours during the data transformation cycle known as ETL (Extraction, Transformation, Loading). The database is usually replenished at night (because doing so in the day would overload the system database) but this may be achieved manually (entirely or for selected domains) by the system administrator. The data warehouse is the source of information for the analytical domains in the OLAP technology. These are available to users of Comarch ALTUM Business Intelligence and provide for the rapid and straightforward analysis of multi-dimensional data available within the domain’s framework. Because the OLAP cubes include data that is partially aggregated, even complicated analyses and reports are available ad hoc. The major data presentation tool is the Book of Reports built into Comarch ALTUM, but information from the analytical cubes can also be examined from other analytical tools that facilitate a connection with OLAP, such as MS Excel. Comarch ALTUM Business Intelligence is based on the following components:

  • Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine (HD)
  • Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (ETL)
  • Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (OLAP)
  • Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (BSC)
